A circular walk from Tavistock.
Always threatening rain but remained dry, with a light breeze.
Time taken: Under 2 hours.
Park in Tavistock and walk from Bedford Square up the hill towards Hurdwick. Just as the pavement ends there is afootpath sign which looks as if it is taking you through the end of gardens- it is!. Go past the rear of people's sheds and then enter a field. The footpath runs parallel to the road which is on the other side of the hedge. After 2 fields the footpath exits at the end of a drive, turn left down it. As the drive swings right you carry on straight on (footpath sign) through the fields. At the end of the first field there is a wonderful old stone trough and spring. The path turns left at a copse and enters another field ( this time the hedge is on your right). A stream runs along the bottom, carry on at the same contour height, through a gate and into the next field. At the gate you will reach the road. Turn left along the B3362 for about a quarter of a mile and then with some relief take a right turn into an unmettaled road (which is like a green lane). It is slittle overgrown at first but the going eases and becomes a pleasant path. At the lane end turn left towards Churchpark Cottag. Right at the end returns you to the road you walked along earlier in the walk.. If you go to the left of the little grey slated toll house you will have multiple small route options to return you to Tavistock shops ( and a cup of tea?
Birds: swallows predominated.
Flowers: the hedgreows are startting to look overgrown and rampant. The colours are moving towards purple- the knapweed and the cream of meadowsweet.
Small joys: butterflies and the stream at the bottom of the next field below the trough.
