A walk of field edges
Date walked: 1st Janurary, 2009.
Weather: Unremittingly grey, no wind but it never seemed to get quite light.
Chilly but not cold.
Time taken: 10.45- 12.15.
A walk of field edges, lanes and an urban by way.
Not really buggyable
Start at Kelly Bray (359715) close to the start of Florence Road. The footpath is marked on the west side of the road. Take the track between light industrial buildings, when they start to peter out, after a robust fence on the left and with a big doored building ahead of you take the way marked track over the stile and follow the field edge into rough pasture. Carry on with good views down to the sea and with the Kit Hill landmark towards your left until another way marker which gives a right turn back onto Florence Road. Turn right into Callington, past Ginsters and the veterinary centres and take a right into a small lane passing Pengelly Farm. This urban path winds you back to Florence Hill where there is a short steep stretch and back onto Florence Road and turn left to return.
Birds: always look out for elusive red kite seen in Autumn 2008 hunting on the south side of Kit Hill and down towards Fullaford Lane.
Flowers: very few but still the occasional red campion.
Small joys: the begiining of some bird song, clearer weather would allow some terrific views down to the sea and ober to Bodmin Moor.
