A walk on quiet lanes that is easily shortened could be done with a buggy.
Sunday 4th September,2009 after what felt like weeks of rain
Weather; grey mizzley but just about dry.
Time: about 3 hours for the complete walk but this walk is easily shortened.
Park where you can at Middle Lumburn Bridge (454742)- there are some useful verges. Walk up the hil. Good views and lots doing in the fields. Pass Colcharton Cottages and continue along the lane crossing the main road and continue to Five Acres. Then turn left heading for Crebor and Buctor ( if like me you have driven past the signs a gazillion times you will be pleased to explore them at last! There are some interesting homesteads and another waiting for a makeover- although I suspect substantial funds would be required. It does look a glorious house. I dropped quickly down the hill on the main road (about 200 yds ) and then crossed the road at Lumburn Bridge and walked up the hill to Newton and back down the lane to the start. As it was still dry and it felt good to be out and about I extended the walk and turned right at Middle Lumburn heading up the hill to Stilesweek but then turned left towards Higher Lumburn Bridge. At the brudge trun right towarsd Ogbeare and the number 168 on the map. turn left and walk along the mainish road towards Three Oaks and then turn left down the hill past Artiscombe to return to where you started.
Birds: buzard, very little bird song and still swallows ( my last sight of them was September 19th)
