A Wonderful walk to Wiggle
Weather: glorious, glorious, glorious, it felt like the first day of spring. No wind, clear skies and MILD.
Time taken: 1hr 30 minutes ( max)
The ideal place to park for this walk would be (420503). I started at a parking place at the side of the road somewhere above 'Ninney Rock' and then walked eastwards along the road with great views out to sea and over the bay. Off the road on the left there is a well marked Cornish Gold Path clearly signed to Treninnow- this takes you over the brow of the hill and across fields (which would be do-able with a buggy) and through the farmstead of Treninnow exiting onto a lane. I turned right and headed for Wiggle- there are other footpath options to explore here. Wiggle looks like a very old settlement with a perfect farmyard pond.Keep on the the lane until the junction ( here there is a good parking with sea views) I headed back along the SW Coast path intrigued by all the holiday chalets. The couple from Bide a While told me theirs had been in the family for 3 generations and was clearly much used and loved. The range of roofs and sites is fascinating- some are clearly more accessible than others. The View at Whitsand Bay does a mean hot chocolate and sprinkles ( NB it won't be open in February 2010).
Flowers: Alexanders are going to be abundant but aren't out just yet. The first roadside daffodils were seen on the way to the walk.
Birds; Buzzards, bird song+++, bluetits and a linnet flock in the fields above Treninnow
Small joys: this walk felt like being on holiday- abroad. The views are spectacular and the chalets great fun. Rarely have I seen a buzzards underbelly at such close quarters nor a paraglider in what looked like ( but possibly wasn't) some uncertainty about where and how to land. S/he may still be up there - above the cliff and the felty roofed chalets. The snap is ( a not very good one) of 3 windshaped bushes masquerading as the the funnels on the cross channel ferries ( trust me they did!)
