Around Chipshop to the Woodleys.
Glorious spring weather, clouds, blue sky, breeze.Still chilly. Great for walking.
1hr 30 minutes
Start at Chipshop (436751) and walk northwards along the road (B3257) towards Collacombe- there is no pavement but ample verges. This road has the potential for the occasional speed merchant but is not particularly busy.
Take the first footpath sign on your left into fields anwith the hedge on your right follow the way markers into a small wood which has wonderful bluebell potential. Exit the wood and continue along field edges (hedge now on left!) and into another wood ( again likely to be good blue bells. Out of this second wood the footbridge across the stream is clearly visible. After the footbridge head up the field to the right of the farm house ( Higher Woodley).A short piece of farmyard takes you onto the lane. Turn right and walk down the lane until Middle woodley and a footpath sign. The path goes through the tip of a garden for a few yards and then into fields.Turn right at the end of the second field ( way marked on the right hand gate post), at the next field boundary head diagonally ( NE) to the gap in the hedge and some steps down to the lane. Turn right and walk up the lane to Chipshop.
Birds: buzzards, 4 in the sky at once.
Flowers: celandines being open hearted and joyous in full sun, still snowdrops and the first of the Hoary Cress in the roadside verges.
Small joys: being above the buzzards over looking the valley and the colour of the catkins amongst the still brown trees in the woods above Catsbridge
