Cargreen, Wayton, Cargreen.
Date walked: 24th May, 2008.
Weather: High grey skies, fresh breeze.
Time taken: 09.15-11.15.
This offers easy brisk walking with no steep inclines and would be very different depending on the state of the tide. It would be a great winter “brisker”.
The riverside footpath from Cargreen northwards was underwater although one could see where one should be heading and retracing steps through the village and taking the first right is a buggiable, or definitely dry feet alternative. There was a friendly roadside stall selling herb plants and strawberry plants. This walk is also cycle friendly along a gated and then quiet lanes. The road northwards from Cargreen offers sights of Thorn Point across the river, creeks and hidden inlets which would be wonderful for winter bird watching. The third gate is at a small settlement of dreamy riverside houses (W on the map) The road soon swings west and starts to offer fascinating and slightly disorientating views of the Tamar bridges. A shorter walk is available at Tinnel taking the left fork. The public footpath after Wayton takes one back to the creek via a mown meadow path and a distinct route directly through growing corn- despite rain that morning it was plodge free. Cycles or buggies could carry on and turn left at Landulph Cross.
Birds: skylarks, bluetits, cormorant, shelduck (and useful information board just beyond Cargreen)
Flowers: bluebells at the end, red campion, hedgerows now starting to run amok,
Small joys: evidence of very recent badger renovations in the hedgerows, peeping though the holes in the magnificent slate wall on the right (heading north)
