From Callington.
Date walked: 12th October, 2008.
Weather: Clear skies, warm, felt like a day of summer we never had.
North east from Callington.
A terrific walk of fields, lanes and streams which includes the irresistible Wagmuggle.
Start at South Hill, take the turn along the lnae under Lodge Farm, take the footpath across the fields towards Trewassick. Turn to the right behind the house, the footpath is beyond the outbuilding in the fence. Drop down the hill to Lansugle, explore the wildlife path and stream (wonderful), turn right and then left towards wagmuggle, follow the path at Berrio Farm ( it goes through their garden) and up the hill across fields towards Egypt. Take the footpath across some rough pasture and drop onto the lane you have previously crossed, turn right on the lane towards Greenacres Fram and then left up the hill to where you started.
Birds: buzzards galore
Flowers: more berries now than flowers
Small joys: the field and oaks going down to Lansugle

Comments:
Never really walked along public footpaths on other people's land, so this was quite interesting for us. The route to Trewassick was fine until we got down beyond the outbuilding and didn't realise we had to then go through a gate to find the footpath again.
We stopped just beyond Lansugle for lunch. Couldn't really explore the path and stream as couldn't find a clear route and it looked likely that the children would get covered, so we missed out there.
Wagmuggle sounded pleasant, but didn't seem to offer too much other than another granite water crossing.
Berrio Farm was very interesting for us as the owners were in the garden when we opened their front gate and walked through. Just seemed very strange for the uninititated. They had two very noisy bloodhound type dogs, fairly noisy but quite pleasant (matched my children really). I asked the owner the way to the footpath and she was pleasant enough. It still felt strange though!
It was on the way to Egypt that we sort of lost our way and went through clearly the wrong field, but such is life.
The rest of the trip was mostly gently uphill back to South Hill.
Took us at a very leisurely pace about 2.5 hours and we had a lovely time. The childen loved running across the fields, they talked to each other (most of the time)and we enjoyed the weather, the views and the walk.
Looking forward to another walk in a few weeks time.
