From the door to St Dominick taking the footpath from the A390 at Prospect Farm
Date walked: 10th August, 2008
Weather: Intermittent brief light showers, brolly up and then down again.
Time taken: About 6 hours of walking with plenty of stops to look around. It is varied underfoot, and a mixture of country lanes, green lanes, tracks and fields.
From the door to St Dominick taking the footpath from the A390 at Prospect Farm, at the bottom turn right to Harrowbarrow, then left towards Norris Green, at Norris Green turn right towards Metherell and then left down into what looks like a housing estate.( ?St nicholoas Close) The footpath goes through along a field boundary, on exit turn left, through Clampits, take the footpath along the field edge and drop down towards Newhouses on the map, turn right and take the track to Morden Farm (rough and slippy), before coming out of the woods there is a footpath on the right, go across the field , the exit is not in view but is taucked in the corner, go over a stile, along a field edge and into a green lane ( VERY muddy and something of a challenge this summer). Go through the farm and then turn right at the footpath sign before really entering St Dominick. This is very steep and rough, at the bottom turn left at radland Mill and walk along until the lane. Turn up the lane towards Brendon (steep). I tried the diagonal footpath across the field ( high stile in the hedge) but was daunted byt cows and so stuck to the road. Turn right down the very narrow lane towards Barrets Mill exiting on Callington road. Turn right and head towards Harrowbarrow, left then quickly right towards the school, take the footpath on the left slowly up the hill on a well used track. At the lane turn right and head towards the main road.
Flowers: bracken on the tops of the banks which make them even higher
Small joys: a hugely rewarding plod with a sense of using tracks and paths that have been used for generations
