Grenofen, buckland Monachorum and back
Weather: dry and cloudy with a cold, cold wind.
Time: about 2 hours
Useful car park at Grenofen Bridge (510710).Follow the track up the hill through the woods and onto the moor. Head due south and leave the moor at the cattle grid and waqlk down the hill towards Buckland Monachorum. Walk into the village and at the church take the footpath on the left by the boundary wall restored by the parish council in 1999.Don't walk into the house and garden but keep alongside what must be one of the loveliest graveyards on the map. Go over the stone stile ignoring the path on the right.Keep on going, through a fram yard- it is well stiled. As the track turns left one can go straight on but I kept left towrds the lane and turned right. At Uppaton House retrun to the moor and navigate with your nose down to the River Walkham ( hard to be exact here) to retrun to the bridge
Birds: first chiff chaffs
Flowers: first glimmer of catkins on the trees
Small joys: a wonderful gravestone in the churchyard with complicated f's ands's- juft try faying it...
