Lamerton
3 hrs.
Glorious winter weather, cloudless, not too cold and very soft underfoot.
Start (4476) at Lamerton Green. ( I used the village hall car park). Cross the road and take a well used way marked path across the field heading down hill towards the stream. All the stiles towards Ottery are well marked and clear and you end on a farm track at Ottery Cottages. Turn left past Ottery Park. Where the road takes a sharp right carry straight in (way marked) along the farm track and fields towards the sewage works (!). Head up the slight hill to the main road via the track. A short burst along the potentially busy and fast Tavistock Road and then right into Lamerton Village. I took the green dotted route and then dropped back into the village then right towards the parish church and then left along the way marked path behind some houses ( before 'cemy' on the map). The path crosses 2 lovely fields.Cross the stream by the footbridge and then walk through some delightful scrub. The path is way marked through a gate directky ahead into fields.Proceed in this direction until buildings appear, navigate around the back of them and turn left onto the track leading to Hurlditch Court.
I returned home along the main road ( it was Boxing day and quiet)
( For fun and a sense of completion I took the diagonal path nortwest from Collacombe Cross, then left, along the main road and down the rack to Redford)
Birds: Grey wagtail on the farm track.
Flowers: first hint of pussy willow.
Small joys: the hint of green in the fields ( either winter wheat or barley0 and the lovely ivy clad barn ( marked on the map between 'Spr' and sewage works.
Navigational error: the path is so well worn after the footbridge and in the scrub that I went right and missed the way mark through the fields. I followed a track and went through useful but NOT waymarked gates heading towrds the M and the E on the map. This is not the footpath!!
