Millbrook via Mt Edgecumbe, Kingsand, Cawsand and return
Weather: gentle breeze, scudding clouds.
Time taken : 3hrs. 45 minutes.
Description.Park in Millbrook long stay car park -good directions in the village. Out of the car park turn right and head through the village.Suggest not taking the signpost for Anderston but the more left hand side on passing a pub called "The Mark of Friendship".Once you see the lake keep to the southern side of it ( bear rightish). The lane takes you along the creek, past the rather wonderful "Round House". There is a tiny footpath on the map "Brock Lane" which takes off a tiny corner but it is probably much nicer to see the sea.Proceed along the lane with the sea/creek on the left with other footpath options on the right and left.I carried on to Cremyll and the ferry landing spot then turned right along the SW coast path following this through Mt Edgecumbe Country Park and into the Deer park. After the Deer Park there is a very steep set of steps with a seat just where you need it.Re enter the Deer Park and follow the acorn signs even when it feels a bit counter intuitive at a signpost, go left down the zig zag path heading towards the sea and you return to the broad path that eventually takes you to the lane. Cross this, turn right for a few yards and pick up the path agian heading towards Kingsand. Kingsand and Cawsand are a joyous muddle of alleys and lanes. I headed out of Kingsand up the road and then turned right up Forder Hill. THIS IS STEEP. The views are worth it. The lane flattens and then head down hill ( Hat Lane). At the junction I made a navigational error and turned left down the hill to Millbrook.
Flowers: the hedgerows are startting to look a little sorry for themselves and we have most certainly moved into the purples of late summer and autumn. Knapweed abounds.
Birds: Still swallows!
Small joys: It was great to be back walking the map after a summer of other duties and a long cycle. Having traversed the counry on the bike and seen many intersting things, including red kites, there is little to rival the Explorer 108 for variety.
