Quethiock Circular
Perfect weather-cloudless sky, warm but not hot.
2 hours.
Start at Quethiock (314647). Walk into the village and head down the (no through) road towards Hepwell ( signposted). This is itself a lovely lane dipping down and then up towards the farm. There is a bridleway sign directing you through the farmyard ( friendly barky dog) and then down a path on the left. This is a narrow bridleway with a good possibility of plodge but today was a mass of flowers and butterflies.Exit at the lane and turn left down the hill. At the house on the right there is a bridleway sign pointing through the field- go through the gate and enter the field following the field edge and River Tiddy. The path is indistinct but leaves the field on the brow of the hill. Following the river edge brings you to the river- watch for fish ( they ARE there!).Leaving the field proceed up the hill towards Treweese Cross. Keep straight on at the next 2 X roads then take the footpath sign on the left to Trehunsey Barton. The path follows the field edges and briefly enters a wood which drops into a garden. The path is on the other side of the drive to the right of the broad bean raised bed. It descends to a small well made bridge, cross and then head diagonally right. You are now at Trehunsey Barton. Follow the path on the right field edge and into the wood over another bridge. Here you will find a pond of magical and primeval quality ( possibly it was the sun shafts through th trees but it did look almost magical). The path takes you through a filed and into the Venn Farm collection of houses. The correct path is along the right hand field edge and not across the mown pathways towards the houses. Walk up the farm drive to the lane. Turn left, then right towards Parsons Pool. I intended to turn right along the footpath before the vicarage but missed it and returned to the village by turning right at the junction and passing North Farm.
Flowers: the hedgerows are a mass of red campion and the evry end of the bluebells.
Birds: chaffinches and swallows in abundance.
Small joys: the clarity of the water in the River Tiddy and the pond near Trehunsey Barton
