Start at Cargreen
Date walked: 21st December, 2008.
Weather: Cloudy and dry.
Time taken: 10.15- 11.15.
Start at Cargreen (4363-see walk 4). This walk takes the field paths to Haye and back along the road.
For a short walk I managed to make 2 navigational errors and walked up the lane to Wayton searching for the path out of the farmyard. It isn’t difficult I simply wasn’t concentrating.
At the obvious footpath sign at the jink in the road follow the yellow way markers along the field edges to the farm at Haye. Do not go through the first gate into the farmyard but continue along the field edge and exit at the second gate. Through the gate into the farmyard between the farm buildings and straight ahead to the way marked gate. Go straight down the first field, at the gate veer to the left aiming for the corner where there is a stile leading to a path alongside a reedy swamp ( the map suggests 2 fields to cross whereas it is now one large one). The road is ahead and turn left for Cargreen.
Birds: cormorants on the Tamar. The tide was in so there was not the profusion of waders one would normally see.
Flowers: one stalwart red campion still in bloom.
Small joys: the gated road and wondering whether the tide ever maroons the cottages at the quay
