Stoke Climsland
2hrs 45 mins.
Glorious dry, bright,clear frosty weather.
This was done in perfect winter weather. Start at Stoke Climsland (3674). Take the lane out of the village by the church, at the first x road take the right. At a well marked footpath signpost on the road side turn left into a faryard, through the gate and along the field edge behind the barn. I exited the fields behind a cottage ( Higher Oldclims) and walked down the drive/lane to the lane proper. Turn right, then another footpath sign on the left down the farm track. A wall step stile and across the fields to Upcott. The path is through the gate before the farmhouse, across the field in front of the farm, past the barn and then diagonally across the field to the far corner exiting by stone wall steps. Follow the lane to Tutwell. I turned back up the hill, followed the lane past Downhouse and then left picking up the well marked footpath signpost across the field. The exitpoint is in the far corner by the disant trees. The footpath takes you down a bridleway/green lane to the x roads you will recognze from the beginning of the walk.
Birds:buzzards.
Flowers: very few surviving the harsh frost.
Small joys: crisp winter meadows and for me- a complete walk without any cows!
25-5-09.At Tutwell there are 2 dotted paths right and left. The path going NW drops down the hill towards Underhill Cottages where, mid afternoon a fox was being pretty determined to have some food in the field despite a cow tring to be not bothered by it ending up in some mini charging and threats- both were oblivious to human onlookers. The other green dot path takes you to Underhill Cottages. Both give interesting views over the river towards Sydenham Damerel
