Park in Tavistock. Head out on the road to Gunnislake (A390). At the last house and the end of the footpath take the signposted field path adjacent to the road.Pass through the field (one stile demands high agility legs). At the footpath sign at the end of the field go OUT of the field, 2 steps onto the road and INTO the next field. Follow the field edge and exit at the green lane. Turn right up the green lane and into the lane at Bowrish Cottages. 2 loose dogs. Turn left up the hill. Left at the junction past Crease Farm, next right, back up a steady hill and right along a track at Stilesweek. Follow waymarks through fields past Downhouse Farm. When the houses and obvious road are in sight head to the corner of the field then go right over another stone stile and then exit onto the B3362. Return to Tavistock.

Birds: fieldfares,chaffinches and robins. First real birdspong of the year.

Flowers: not much, snowdrops in suburban gardens, catkins developing.

Small joys: the green lane in summer which will be a green tunnel and the giant antler.
