Tideford Circular
Weather: bright-ish, DRY and very breezy. 2 fleeces required but vest has been removed as it is April.
Time 1hr 50 minutes.
If starting at Tideford there is easy and free parking in the car park. walk up the gentle hill towards Tideford Cross and talk the right hand of the Y junction. Continue on past Trewolsta. I couldn't find the footpath marked on the map to Tredudwell and continued on up the quiet lane. Go under the power lines and then take the next right to Trenance. Walk through the farm and straight ahead there is a track- the 'green lane'. This was muddy but passable. It looks as if it ends in a field but it veers sharply left and is a rocky twig strewn path dropping down hill to a flowing pond and stream which is the boundary between the parishes of Landrake and Quethiock. The pathis narrow with steep sides dries as it goes uphill. This was an old county road and ends at Trewandra and a lane. Turn right and the next 'green lane' is ahead of you. Follow this line adjacent to fields and through a plantation gradually dropping downhill to meet the stream. there are helpful bridges at key points . At the lane turn left and then take the next right. ( If you wish to miss the A38 I would suggest a right here back to Tideford Cross and retrace steps down the hill)This lane runs along the stream and a pond.. There is a pavement on the south side of the A38 taking you safely up the hill towards the village.
Flowers: a late spring with daffs, wild strawberry flowers, dogs mercury and of course primroses in all their glory in the hedgerows and on field slopes. There is just the hint of leaves on hawthorn but the countryside is still one of browns predominating.
Birds: are busy and gloriously noisy.
Small joys: the chiff chaff is back.
